Annoying sound coming from ducted A/C vents

Hi all,

Though it's not warm enough yet to run the A/C here in Ohio, I did turn it on to test and found that there's an annoying "crackling" sound that comes through the vents. I popped of one of the round vents and using a mirror with the fan on, I was able to look all the way down the duct. It appears to be made of, or lined with a silver lining; possibly a foil lined insulation. Anyway, I could see little "fringes" or jagged pieces of what looks like aluminum foil all the way down the duct, blowing in the wind. These "fringes" or pieces are waving back and forth hitting the duct and making this annoying crackling noise. The camper is brand new; haven't used it yet other than in the driveway. (2011 Keystone Sprinter Select 29BH.)

Has anyone else experienced this? I can only imagine how annoying, in time, this will be. It can be heard in the living room area and the master bedroom. I'm taking the unit in to have a slide topper installed and a couple of minor things looked at. Of course I'll let the dealer know, but I can't imagine how they could fix this. The entire lenght of duct seems to be making this noise. I'd hate for them to drop the ceiling and "re-do" something. Could only imagine what other can of worms that would open up.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else experieced this, and if so, what might be done to correct it. I had a vision of trying to run a chimney sweep type thing down the duct hoping to break loose the little pieces. Not sure what else could be done.

Thanks for any thoughts. Love the camper otherwise. Quality actually seems pretty good for the price. Just that annoying crackling noise to deal with.

Mark

I have not experienced that, but I could see where that would be a huge annoyance. I would guess you would have to get something in there to cut off those little pieces, like a very loooong pair of scissors. Without creating a huge can of worms by opening up the underside of the roof, pulling the duct down and taking it apart,WHEW!! I will have to think about that one, its making my head hurt. Sam

Ha ha. Yes, it's annoying me, and I haven't even gone out camping with it yet. I will definitely run it by the dealer and see what they offer for options, if anything. I'll have to think seriously on their reply. I just know that the noise is going to drive me crazy, especially when sitting there trying to watch TV! Funny, often people complain about the noise from the furnace fan. That doesn't bother me near as much.
