Remove Rust in Fresh Water Tank

The ground sensor in the fresh water tank has rusted away partially and has stained the area around the hole inside the tank. Using a bright flashlight up against the opaque tank I can see the dark stains inside.

What are my concerns here health wise? And can I use a safe chemical to remove the stains since access to the inside is impossible? If so, what chemical? Or just sanitize and call it a stain that won’t hurt anything or anybody?

All other sensors are ok. I suspect this has been rusting away since I first put water in it.
