According to the website, every queen bed in a current model Outback is 60x74 which is the "short queen" The only beds that appear to be any larger are the slide "kings" which are 72x75, which is also a "short king" I didn't see any available 80" bed. However, looking at the front bedroom trailer floorplans, there is access on both sides of the TV, so it shouldn't be any problem to put in a full length queen mattress and just access the bed from both sides of the "TV wall"

My new Laredo has a 60X80 queen mattress & very UNCOMFORTABLE I might add. It would seem to me that the Outback has the same!

My Laredo 291TG has the 80" bed. As for comfort level - unknown as I have yet to sleep on it.
I will state that I did add my memory foam topper to the mattress before I put on the mattress protector. This was because I had this from the last trailer so I figure I should put it to use...

I ordered one last night online, a serta 4" memory foam...I hope it helps as the Laredo mattress is BAD!

We just returned from 5 days (nights) which is our first trip of this season. The trailer performed well, but that DAMNED mattress was anything but comfortable. While it's a "short queen" and my feet hung off the end,
(I'm 6'2"), I usually sleep with my feet hanging off the end of the bed anyway, so no big deal there. What made it rough to sleep well for me was the "sponginess" of the mattress. This is the first innerspring mattress I've ever slept on that let my butt hit the plywood base under the mattress. It sort of reminded me of the old 3" foam mattresses in the old truck campers. I'm not sure if a foam topper will really fix the problem, so if it works for you, please let us know. I'm thinking that the only way to really fix it is to get a good mattress as a replacement, but it seems expensive to pay "full price" for a "half size" mattress and a regular queen won't fit in our bedroom. That being said, I'm really interested in how well a memory foam topper really helps the situation.

Our bed is a short king. At bed time, I pull the mattress away from the wall by about 6" and let the pillow overhang a little.
I'm 6' tall.

Unhappy Outback Queen

Our 2011 Outback "329" has a short Queen mattress. We placed a thin egg crate sponge topper for comfort as we did in our previous RV. Standard queen padded mattress cover as the final topper.

In our 2005 Hornet TT, we bought a custom short queen mattress for $450 and it was GREAT.... (still used the thin sponge topper),

Prior to RV'ing had 2 boats with sleeping "aft cabins". Similar platform beds. All needed some type of comfort additions to preference. We are not large people. I am pretty sure size (length or weight or both) adds complexity to finding the ideal comfort.

I know right now; when in the RV I do not yearn for my bed at home. That's a good indicator of comfort.

Thanks for the all replys Iam 6'3" and 230 plus and i could not get a good night sleep in our 28bhs nor can i in the new 321 frl we have memory foam on both but not a good night sleep. Maybe we can go with a thicker memory foam, but ive got to change something.

I know a full queen will not fit.

We used what Keystone calls a mattress for two years and then went with a foam topper for one year..... better but still not good. We broke down and bought a 60x80 foam mattress from Costco for under $400. Just spent a month sleeping on it and we are considering getting one for home. Things are tight with the 60x80 but a good nights sleep makes everything better.

We lucked out on our Bullet Premier. Keystone had a show special that included a central vac, pull out faucet and a pillow top mattress. Waaaaay better than the rock hard mattress in our Rockwood.

Just returned last Sunday from 10 days in the UP fishing and relaxing (well relaxing except for sleeping) That's 15 days on Keystone's idea of a mattress and there WON'T be a 16th.... We went to CW and they have their European pillow top RV mattress on sale for $360. Bought it, it came in today, put it in the trailer and VOILLA !!!! I won't be "mellodramatic" and call it heaven, but what a difference !. We haven't slept on it yet, but the few minutes of trying it out sure lead me to believe we'll be much more comfortable than we were with that "thing" we had before. Does anybody need a "space taker upper" called a mattress ???? LOL

i might take you up on that. between yours and mine, i might have a good one.
all joking aside, i actually don't mind our harder mattress in the camper. i actually sleep better in our trailer then i do at home. i bought a new mattress 3 years ago, almost a grand, and my wife loves it, but i can't stand it. i wanted it gone after the first night, but i guess i am stuck with it for a bunch of years yet. i joke with her and tell her that she gets the next ten years of misery, but i know that it prolly wont work out that way

Lucky for us our queen mattress is the full residential size of 60 x 80.
We took out the original RV mattress and put in a pillow top residential mattress. Since and it is still in their 4 years later.
The original RV mattress - I still have - and it was never used! Just kept
it in case I had to throw it on the floor for company in the house now.

I wish I would have thought of that. Maybe my company wouldn't stay so long. You could feel every spring in our old mattress and the plywood under it.

Cumminsdad,

If you want it, it's in the garage right beside the Champion generator. No I'm keeping the generator LOL. We slept out in the trailer last night, and it was just as restful as our house mattress. So, next week we leave for NC for a 2-3 week trip to visit the kids, then back here for a 1 week family camping trip with my wife's family, then baci to the UP for 10+ days of bass fishing, then it's home to start getting ready for hunting season.... MAN RETIREMENT IS SO ROUGH <wink> LOL

Yup, camping world. The president's club price was $360, the regular price was about $450 so it was a no brainer for us. I was somewhat concerned about it being another similar to what we have. When I picked it up, it was in a box, about 18x18x60" and I had my doubts. The guy that loaded it in the truck assured me that they had sold 4 that same week and that everyone liked the mattress and they had no returns. In fact, he said that several people, after having one, made changing out the mattress in new RV's for that same mattress as part of the purchase.... Not being sure if that was all hype or truth, I still had reservations.

We opened the box, cut off the plastic and when the mattress unrolled and started rising, I still was skeptical, but more sure. It's hard to believe someone can stuff a queen sized mattress that's 8" thick in a box that size, but they did it.

I'm satisfied, and, since our trailer is more or less a summer only home, I do expect it to last for many years to come.

If you're looking to replace yours, go to CW and check out the mini sized mattress they have as a display, I think you'll be suprised and who knows, maybe they'll sell another one LOL

Happy camping
