I would rather have the plastic break than have the screws ripped out of the aluminum studs in the walls and leave holes that can't be repaired.
It would be much better (I think) to have the "weakest link" be a component that's easy to replace rather than to have it be a structural part of the sidewall of my RV.
Your mod will definitely work to keep the curtains in place, but if you bump a chair into it, will it tear the upholstery, rip the curtain or tear the aluminum standoff out of the wall. Worse yet, what if you back into one with your shoulder or thigh while cleaning, will it be as "unforgiving" to your skin as it would be to a recliner?
I'd urge some caution around anything that "heavy duty" in a "light duty wall."
