Moose,

Sorry to hear about your fading cap. It is a pain. Is your Laredo still under warranty? If so, take it in to your dealer right away and file a warranty claim. I just had mine painted with automotive paint and clear coat. It looks great and I also got new decals. All under warranty.

Good luck!

Since your RV is a 2014 model, if you're still under warranty, don't delay the claim !!!!!

The warranty from Keystone is 12 months. Since the front cap is a part of the Keystone components, I doubt there's any "extra warranty" from the supplier. Your best option would be to contact your dealer, see what he says and if you're not satisfied, possibly "appeal to the goodness" of Keystone Customer Service. They are under no "obligation" to help you, so requesting their help will get you more cooperation than demanding or approaching it as an "entitlement". The warranty, once it's expired, puts you into a request mode rather than a "demand mode".

Cool

I too am having the fading of the fromt cap. I just noticed it this weekekd. I don' know if the warranty period or the extended perion will cover it. We bought ours in Nov 2013.

I will never buy another RV from Keystone with a colored cap again. Keystone also has several problems such as inside trim pulling off of the slide and the such.

Goof Luck and keep me posted on your progress. I will post mine also.

I have a 2012 Cougar and the front cap is fading badly I have cleaned and polished it with 3M Marine since new and still fading. Next Spring I will have it repainted with a High Gloss Epoxy Marine paint and will not put Cougar decals on it the DW wants to put a nice Quilt Pattern it (a Log Cabin, like most of you know what that is). So that is our plan it not worth the trouble to deal with Keystone at all.

Gary,

I understand your frustration and the feeling to "just fix the darned thing"... But I urge you to at least contact Keystone CS with an email and pictures of the fading. Tell them what you said here, that you've washed, waxed and cared for it properly and that you're not satisfied with the fading.

Keystone is well aware of the issue of molded in color and fading. In the late 2014 and all 2015 models, they are now painting them, not using molded in coloring. Who knows, you might just appeal to their better judgment and get some help with the cost of painting your end cap. A number of people have been successful, some haven't. I really think the successful ones approached Keystone with all the facts and figures, laid it out and asked for help. I'm pretty sure their success rate is much better than those who send a nasty email telling Keystone how crappy their trailer is, threatening to never buy another one and expecting Keystone to jump at the chance to keep them happy..... I know which customer I'd bend over backwards for..... <just sayin'>

Give it a try, all you can do is get told no and revert to your current plan....

Good Luck.

What do you mean by molded in coloring? Are you talking about the color being in the gel coat like a boat or something different? I wish it was in the gel because it would take many years of exposure to the sun with no care before it starts to fade. If it did fade you could wet sand or use a high speed polisher it to bring the color back. If thats the case why are not all these caps just being wet sanded and or polished?

I thought all the ones that people were complaining about were painted just using cheap product and technique.

The issue is with the "color infused" gelcoat finish on the "colored caps" It does not affect the "white caps" I can't tell you "why" the color infused gelcoat on some of the caps fades and on other caps it doesn't. It's NOT only a Keystone issue, but all the manufacturers of all RV's with dark colored endcaps are having the same type of fade problem. One theory is that the fiberglass contractor who does a lot of endcaps for the industry failed to add a UV inhibitor. Whether this it the situation, or whether it's not a "true Gelcoat" but rather a "poly coat resin" that's added is unknown to me.

I do know that Keystone, in mid 2014, stopped using the "color infused" endcaps and started painting their endcaps with an automotive grade paint (similar to the optional paint used on upper end RV's).

I agree, the "marine industry" gelcoat doesn't fade nearly as fast. My understanding is that the RV endcaps were not produced with that type of finish.

Its too bad they aren't because that would be the ultimate way to go.

If the industry (not just Keystone, but nearly every manufacturer) won't install bathroom door hardware with a lock because it costs 15 cents more than nonlocking hardware, we'd be wishing against all logic to expect them to spend several hundred more for an "upgraded gelcoat finish" on the end cap. Remember also, the filon sides and the rear cap are still made of "dated materials" that fall apart if the insides get wet. So upgrading to an expensive and durable end cap probably wouldn't solve the problem, just transfer it to the side walls a year later.....

I am not sure if the 2013's had the color in the gel. I was waxing mine today and noticed mine is starting to discolor/oxidize around the upper radius. Just down from that was a little chip out of the paint. Just like a rock chip in a car. It was white underneath. Obviously my front cap is painted. Along with a couple stickers on the cap that have experienced UV failure its time to find out how keystone wants to handle this.

Maybe I am just lucky, but my 2013 brown cap has not faded. I have seen many 2012-2013 that have faded. I do keep it clean and polish it 2 to 3 x year but am thinking I justgot a good one.

Swan2125, I see you are pulling a Laredo with a Ram 1500. Did you beef up your suspension at all? My 2010 Ram is sagging in the rear about 6 inches even with the weight distribution. Looking at options.

With a 6" drop you must be near bottoming out on the fenders. Many have good things to say about the airlift 1000 kit. I had them in my 1500' cost around $150, installed it myself in about an hr, I am not able to change brakes or things like that but it was that straight forward. They worked great for me but I was around 8000pds loaded up.

In August Keystone redid my 2012 Outback end cap under warranty because of oxidation. Before the redo they told my not to use wax on the gel coat because it would make it worse.
