Passport America
I was wondering if anyone uses Passport America? Or is it another ripoff?

We have used it. Some campgrounds only honor discount for one night, others honor it for four nights or so. I would say it is not a ripoff, but sometimes you do not save as much as you would like.

I'm sure Passport America would not be calling it a "rip off" but......
Like many of these discount RV resort plans and groups, there are as many restrictions and "good only" conditions as there are benefits. Some, as mentioned above, are good for only one night, or the first night is 50% off and you pay regular rates after that. Others are good only on weekdays and not valid on the weekends or holidays. There are other conditions as well and each campground and resort has different stipulations.
While the initial outlay isn't very much, it's not quite as attractive as you are led to believe.

We will be heading out for an extended trip sometime in the fall. PA will save us enough to justify the annual membership cost in 4 nights at Paragon Casino's campground. Any other use will be savings we wouldn't have had. So, this year we're buying an annual membership, but probably won't renew it unless we plan another trip where we'd see the savings.

Before you join, it's easy to go up to the PPA website and look through the participating campsites for the areas you are planning to visit to see if you can save any money or not.

I have used it in the past but never renewed it. It's a good deal if you can find the campgrounds that don't have all the restrictions or you can use it when you want to use it. I would pay the membership fee again if we were going somewhere that we could use it for the whole time we would be staying.

We find it very handy when we are in transit from one destination to another, they often have parks that are close to interstate highways. If you use it more than 3 times it usually paid for. We were able to use it for a 7 day stay around Moab.

As a full-timer we just returned from a 6 month cross country trip. We joined Escapees, Good-Sam, KOA & Passport America a year ago. Out of ALL of them Passport America gave us the best discounts and paid for itself after our 2nd stay where it was accepted. The least used was Escapees. The most used was Good Sam.
I did find that there are some locations that do not advertise they accept Passport America. If they can give someone only a 10% discount vs. a 50% discount that's what they will do. You have to ask! Also, depending on the park you can use Passport America's 50% off then if you’re staying longer use one of the other discounts. Just sayin .. any discount is better than paying there inflated rates. And if they won't we leave.
So, it will depend on where and when you plan to travel as to which one is best for you.
On another note - If you are staying somewhere longer than 5 days ask about their weekly or monthly rate. But they advertise no monthly - really! Ask - bet they do and will and it's even better than there weekly rate.
We found only ONE RV park that had a policy of absolutely NO discounts (Hilltop RV Park, Fort Stockton TX)
Good luck and above all have fun.

We to are full timers and use the PA a lot when we are on the road. The cost is low so if you save enough to pay for it in a week the rest of the year is a great savings. As said already a lot of camp grounds offer the weekly or monthly discount. We were in Branson last summer and the camp ground there let us stay for a month cheaper than the PA rate. All ways good to ask depending on how long you stay in one place and how much you travel. We put over 30,000 miles on in the last 2 years. Enjoy the life style we do.

As others are saying, when full timing we found it useful as it takes only a few nights. The biggest problem we found is that most don't honor it during their "high" seasons so if you follow the sun, as we did, they often didn't honor it.

We have had Passport America for several years and it has always paid for itself. There are restrictions, especially summer weekends, so it depends on your travelling schedule how it will work for you. We have found some excellent stops that we would have missed otherwise.

Passport America
We use this program as much as possible. Some times if your book shows they only do this or that, it doesn't hurt to pre-call. We do and it generally works well for us. Have been a member for 5 years+-.

The 1st time we bought a membership, we felt it didn't work for us so we did not renew. About 5 years later, we decided to try again and now use it quite often. It pays for itself quickly.
We do use it mostly when we are looking for an overnight stop as we travel but have spent as much as a week in a park.
Some are great, some good and some not so hot but not unlike any parks you may visit even paying full price. We passed up a few high prices regular parks when we saw what they looked like. We opted then to just go to Wal*Mart to spend the night.
While the PA rate is good for their stated time frame you can ask them to extend if they are not full or you can stay at their regular rate. We did that one time and after taking the 3 nite PA rate and 2 night regular rate and dividing by 5, we were still getting a good deal. Hugs, Di

Had a few CG memberships, PA is the only one that consistently save us money and the only one we pay for now. If you use it and plan properly, you will pay for it really quick, and after that it will save you money.

We're visiting friends in the Palm Springs area this January. I called a PA affiliate park to see how many days they would accept the 50% rate. 7 days was the answer...and it was a highly recommended, fairly high-end park. I'm joining and reserving today. The savings are substantial considering typical Kalifornia rates plus the Palm Springs rates in January.
Now if I can just adjust and adapt while out of my preferred, rural environment. (Make note to self...wash truck before driving locally)
