My TV Before I Buy TT??

Hey Guys and Gals,

This is a 3rd try to post. I'm new at this forum stuff, maybe it will make it this time

Kris and I are looking forward to traveling the US a lot more in the near future.
We really like the Keystone Sprinter 266RBS-WB. But first what do you think about my TV. We have not purchased our TT yet.

Our TV is a Ram 1500 4x4 CC w/5.7 Hemi, 3.92 gears, 395hp and 420 lbs./ft of torque. We have a "E" rated tires, "towing package" (engine and tranny oil coolers and heavier springs). I've also put a set of "timbrens" on her. I have a payload of 1500 lbs. and a tow rating of 10100 lbs. What do you think? Will I need a WDH and if so who do you think makes the best setup?

Here are the specs. from Keystone on their Sprinter 266RBS-WB. Does the
"hitch" weight seem light to you?

Specs for 266RBS
Shipping Weight 6591
Carrying Capacity 2894
Hitch 685
Length 29' 5"
Height 11' 0"
Fresh Water 45
Waste Water 32
Gray Water 64
LPG 60
Tire Size ST225/75R15D

Kris and I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas.

Thank you for all your help and suggestions.

Marty

Marty, Yes you need WD hitch. Your loaded hitch weight will be closer to 900lbs than 650. Figure on 10%+ of loaded trailer weight plus the weight of the hitch. You will have to watch your payload closely (might have to leave your heaviest kid and the dog home ) and load accordingly. Travel safely, Hank

hi and welcome everything looks good. as hank said the hitch weight will be closer to 900 lbs. when you add the propane and tanks and battery plus stuff inside. so subtract that from your payload. and that is what you have left to carry in your truck. and also please do invest in a wd hitch. you will be very happy you did. Also nice truck!

x3, you will need a WD hitch. Your factory Dodge Hitch is rated for 500# or 1000# with WD hitch, prob the same as my Dodge 3500. When a TT is over 25', a sway control WD hitch is highly recommended. I would skip the brake pad add-on to a WD hitch. There are some $2k sway control WD hitch's out there and highly recommended. Too rich for me. Next level are the Equalizer and Reese Dual Cam/Straight-Line whatever they want to call it. I opted for Reese and set it up myself. Watched some youtube videos and Etrailer.com has some videos, pretty straight forward. Read the hitchs owners manual like 30 times. Good luck and happy camping.

Specs look good to me. You will need a WDH. You will need some kind of sway control. I use a hisky WDH and a single friction sway control. It is not anything special, but it does the trick just fine. If you are planning a lot of travelling and have some more money I think their are better options out there. But it works fine and we go on some long trips. You will also need a brake controller of some sort.

I use the Reese Dual Cam Sway bar WDH system. works fantastic for me. Eventually I will move to the Anderson hitch but for now I`m happy with my set up. Installed it myself so it`s not that hard.

I have that exact trailer minus the wide body. A 2014. Same weights though. I towed it for a couple of months with a 2006 f150 Harley Davidson 5.4 v8 3.73 gears. was rated for about 8600 towing. Although the truck pulled it just fine I had to keep overdrive locked out and was getting about 6 to 7 mpg. My biggest concern was safety though. That's a lot of trailer fully loaded (around 9 to 9.5k). I was stopping fine and starts would really run my truck through the gears. Either way make sure you have a good wd hitch/sway control. like the equalizer. I just bought a f350 and it pulls like a dream now :P
