Remove overhead bunk from passport express 189ml

We would like to remove the overhead bunk (small bunk above queen bed) due to claustrophobia. Is this something that can be done easily without damaging the travel trailer? We would put it back in before attempting any resale, but not comfortable sleeping with it installed.

Thanks for advice?

On our 189ml the upper bunk can be lifted up and locked in the up position to get it out of the way (although we like to keep ours in the down position for use as a storage shelf).
I would suggest you try that before removing it.

As Steve said, you should be able to fold up the front half of the upper bunk and open the space somewhat. If you're looking to open the space fully, remove the mattress and you will see 6 or 8 each #2 square drive screws along the sides of back part of the upper bunk(actually the front of the trailer) portion of the upper bunk. Remove those screws and the bunk should slide out. The 1" x 3" side supports will be difficult to remove. They are probably glued to the side wall and screwed through the wall studs from the outside of the trailer before the outer skin was installed. If you are intending to reinstall the bunk before selling or trading your trailer, I'd leave those side supports in place. You'll probably do more damage trying to remove them and even if removed, you'll have the staple holes, screw holes and glue damage to contend with.

Unfortunately, there were no screws exposed when I remove the mattress. Not sure about my next move.

On your model, can you lift the upper bunk up and lock it in the up position?
On our 2011 189ml, the upper bunk lifts up totally out of the way.

Even lifted up it is bothering us (making us feel close in) and, being in the south, dramatically impacts the amount of airflow in the area under the bed. Yes, we can fold it in half, and we do this already. But it bothers us even like that.
