Well, THAT just made the cost of purchasing a new truck go up THAT much higher. Do you honestly think the manufacturer will take the "hit" .... nope. They will just charge "THAT" much more on to the customer. WE.... the consumers are the loosers in this fiasco.

VW diesels "years ago" and now RAM/Cummins...

My Ford Superduty had a "tech update" to change the emissions programming about 2 years ago. The "update" was about 4 or 5 years old when I took my truck in for a Def heater problem and the dealer "updated the software program" without my knowledge. I had been putting it off because of the possibility that the stricter tailpipe emissions output had been a problem for several of my friends.

Anyway, about 3 months after the dealer "updated my truck" I went into limp mode and then into idle. Ford had a "owner satisfaction program" where they would replace the entire "torpedo" (catalytic converter/DEF mixing tank/ash filter) on trucks that failed due to the software update. Fortunately, the only cost to me was being without my truck for the 3 months for Ford to locate parts during COVID.

Looking back, I'm glad I had it done, but when "thinking about the why Ford did it", I have to wonder if they set up the SuperDuty diesels to "ignore emissions" or to go into DEF regeneration at extended intervals to increase fuel mileage by not regenerating as frequently ???

Seems I remember some articles a couple years ago where GM, Ford, RAM, Nissan were all "involved in emissions management" to be more competitive in truck performance.....

I wonder if this is just the next phase in undoing what they were all doing for the past truck model specs????

Using the terms "vulnerable communities" and the word "agenda" makes me wonder about the EPA/Fed agenda.

EPA Administrator Michael Regan said "vulnerable communities are more likely to reside near highways where these harmful emissions are concentrated, making this agreement critical to advancing our environmental justice agenda."

Regardless, ALL of the trucks built after 2010 are head and shoulders above the older diesels on emissions and make much more power too. Pretty sure my Banks programmer meets the standards too or they wouldn't be in business. You just have to remember to remove their program if you take it to a dealer or they'll erase it when they update the software.

Cummins got off cheap. The Volkswagen settlement was $25 BILLON dollars for the US only. Yes, it was certainly different circumstances. But nonetheless it is a significantly different settlement.

Even though the vehicle in question was a wee thing, you could reliably get 55 MPG out of that little diesel.

Maybe it wasn't about the emissions but the fact that it wasn't burning enough to generate fuel taxes?

Last I knew, CT was up in arms about lost fuel tax revenue due to hybrids and EVs.

Fwiw. You have the penalties paid, then you have the repairs, the adjustments paid to customers , the additional investments made into EV infrastructure as part of the TOTAL settlement.

Volkswagen paid $1.45 billion in U.S. civil penalties in 2017 after the German automaker in 2015 disclosed that it had cheated emissions tests by installing defeat devices" in 11 million vehicles worldwide, using sophisticated software to reduce emissions only during emissions tests.

Volkswagen in total settled U.S. civil and criminal actions prompted by the emissions scandal for more than $20 billion.

Do they even make that model anymore? Knew of a few people that weren't happy with theirs.....and the Nissan's with the Cummins V-8.

Have you gotten anything on yours yet Brian? I just checked the Ram app yesterday after reading the Ram forum and show no open recalls. Quite a few on there already had been notified of the 67A recall.

Oh yeah good call on that one (from what I hear/read). Yeah even on the Ram forum no one had it done yet so no real experience anywhere. I had just bought a 2015 Jetta Diesel and went through that debacle.
Anyway I guess if they had reflashed yours it didn’t make a real noticeable difference to you…….IF

Come to think of it mine was in for the “relay” and the “tailgate” deal a few months back so maybe?
