Couch leg mod (shortened)

The couch/air bed in our living room was not stable when made into a bed. The adjustable legs were not long enough to reach the floor. The couch sets in the slide out (higher than the regular floor) and the adjustable legs when made into a bed needed to rest on the regular floor. We also store our tv (not tow vehicle) trays under the couch, and did not want to loose this space. I was able to cut 7/8" off the couch legs.
Here are some pictures of what I did.

This is a picture of what couch we have in ours. It has a pull out drawer in it and the tv trays fit nicely under it.

It has an air bed (not a hide-a-bed). Here you can see the 4 adjustable legs.

In this picture you can see the adjustable legs don't screw out far enough to reach the regular floor.

This is the front legs of the couch.

Back legs. Both front and back legs have bolts holding them in. You have to remove the bolt to take the legs off. You can't turn the legs to unscrew them.

I set the couch on several different sized shims made from scraps I had laying around. I was trying to find out what length each leg needed to be for the adjustable legs to reach the floor and still allow for the tv trays to be stored under the couch.

I cut 7/8" off the front legs. (both of them)

And, cut 7/8" off the back legs. (both of them). I used a table saw with a guide to remove the 7/8" off each of the 4 legs.

The rear legs had very rounded edges. So I used a belt sander to round the edges where I had cut them. Note: You can't cut the top of the leg and leave the rounded part because you will cut off the wood needed for the bolt to hold the leg on the couch.

I bolted the legs back on the couch and placed the tv trays back under the it.

Now I was able to properly adjust the legs to reach the floor making the bed stable.

That's odd, both of my couch's have a rounded hoop legs. They reach to the floor. I wonder why your's have straight legs and levelers? Either way, good old fashioned git'r done. Going camping at Joe Pool Lake this weekend for the holiday. I'll no doubt get lots of "ideas" from my father in law. Fortunately, he is a camp volunteer and has access to plenty of tools. BTW, how fast do you typically tow?

Odd.. Does yours have air beds?

Normally 50 to 55 on straight hwys, and 60 to 65 on interstate.

Couch bed legs

Don't worry, they still have not fixed that. 2012 28RBS, same way. Tried to adjust out on our first outing and no such luck. Had to put a shoe under each leg. Was either going to get a longer adjusting bolt or cut off like you had done.

Mine has got a large oval ball type leg so not sure how good it will look if I cut off part of the leg

Very cool. I can't tell you how annoyed I was that Keystone didn't do something to correct this problem! Total lack of interest. Anyway, I was using 1 foot lengths of 2x12's under the front metal legs but I think this is a far better solution.

Thanks for sharing.
