According to the website, every queen bed in a current model Outback is 60x74 which is the "short queen" The only beds that appear to be any larger are the slide "kings" which are 72x75, which is also a "short king" I didn't see any available 80" bed. However, looking at the front bedroom trailer floorplans, there is access on both sides of the TV, so it shouldn't be any problem to put in a full length queen mattress and just access the bed from both sides of the "TV wall"

My new Laredo has a 60X80 queen mattress & very UNCOMFORTABLE I might add. It would seem to me that the Outback has the same!

My Laredo 291TG has the 80" bed. As for comfort level - unknown as I have yet to sleep on it.
I will state that I did add my memory foam topper to the mattress before I put on the mattress protector. This was because I had this from the last trailer so I figure I should put it to use...

We just returned from 5 days (nights) which is our first trip of this season. The trailer performed well, but that DAMNED mattress was anything but comfortable. While it's a "short queen" and my feet hung off the end,
(I'm 6'2"), I usually sleep with my feet hanging off the end of the bed anyway, so no big deal there. What made it rough to sleep well for me was the "sponginess" of the mattress. This is the first innerspring mattress I've ever slept on that let my butt hit the plywood base under the mattress. It sort of reminded me of the old 3" foam mattresses in the old truck campers. I'm not sure if a foam topper will really fix the problem, so if it works for you, please let us know. I'm thinking that the only way to really fix it is to get a good mattress as a replacement, but it seems expensive to pay "full price" for a "half size" mattress and a regular queen won't fit in our bedroom. That being said, I'm really interested in how well a memory foam topper really helps the situation.

Our bed is a short king. At bed time, I pull the mattress away from the wall by about 6" and let the pillow overhang a little.
I'm 6' tall.

Outback Queen
Our 2011 Outback "329" has a short Queen mattress. We placed a thin egg crate sponge topper for comfort as we did in our previous RV. Standard queen padded mattress cover as the final topper.
In our 2005 Hornet TT, we bought a custom short queen mattress for $450 and it was GREAT.... (still used the thin sponge topper),
Prior to RV'ing had 2 boats with sleeping "aft cabins". Similar platform beds. All needed some type of comfort additions to preference. We are not large people. I am pretty sure size (length or weight or both) adds complexity to finding the ideal comfort.
I know right now; when in the RV I do not yearn for my bed at home. That's a good indicator of comfort.

Thanks for the all replys Iam 6'3" and 230 plus and i could not get a good night sleep in our 28bhs nor can i in the new 321 frl we have memory foam on both but not a good night sleep. Maybe we can go with a thicker memory foam, but ive got to change something.
I know a full queen will not fit.

We used what Keystone calls a mattress for two years and then went with a foam topper for one year..... better but still not good. We broke down and bought a 60x80 foam mattress from Costco for under $400. Just spent a month sleeping on it and we are considering getting one for home. Things are tight with the 60x80 but a good nights sleep makes everything better.

We lucked out on our Bullet Premier. Keystone had a show special that included a central vac, pull out faucet and a pillow top mattress. Waaaaay better than the rock hard mattress in our Rockwood.

Lucky for us our queen mattress is the full residential size of 60 x 80.
We took out the original RV mattress and put in a pillow top residential mattress. Since and it is still in their 4 years later.
The original RV mattress - I still have - and it was never used! Just kept
it in case I had to throw it on the floor for company in the house now.

I wish I would have thought of that. Maybe my company wouldn't stay so long. You could feel every spring in our old mattress and the plywood under it.

Cumminsdad,
If you want it, it's in the garage right beside the Champion generator. No I'm keeping the generator LOL. We slept out in the trailer last night, and it was just as restful as our house mattress. So, next week we leave for NC for a 2-3 week trip to visit the kids, then back here for a 1 week family camping trip with my wife's family, then baci to the UP for 10+ days of bass fishing, then it's home to start getting ready for hunting season.... MAN RETIREMENT IS SO ROUGH <wink> LOL

Uncomfortable Mattresses
My wife and I used to have a 1998 Class A with a horribly cheap and uncomfortable mattress. We went to our local camping world and bought a 2" queen size memory foam topper for about $150. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! We've used this for about 5 years now. Our new 5th wheel bed already has a memory foam topper so the kids will use it in the garage bed! BTW-It stores greatly in a plastic bag. I roll it in 3rds and then fold (almost roll) it up. Then put it in a plastic bag and use my vacuum to suck out all the air. I then strap it with quick velcro and store it in a small tote box! Great storage for it.
