I think the locking part is due to another feature for off road. It does have the electronic locking axles, I do remember that from the sticker. It does have the off-road package with skid plates and some feature for going downhill, I assume the locking ? Thanks for helping me help this guy.

My code is 3E which is a 3.73 electronic locking rear axle. The locker works in two ways; if you pull out on the 4x4 selector dial, it engages the locker and will automatically disengage if speed exceeds 25mph and will automatically re-engage when speed drops below 20 mph. The second method is if you use one of the transmission drive modes like Slippery or Deep Snow/Sand it will automatically engage the locker without having to pull the knob out. I discovered this on a sloppy snowy day when trying to turn into a driveway and the truck just kept going straight ahead.
The locking differential is intended for off road use only. The downhill feature you mentioned is the transmission braking like what happens in tow mode, the transmission will slow the truck so you don’t have to ride the brakes

Cool, I just turn knobs, no pulling out, or push buttons. Thanks for explanation, as no one has had the answer before.

You can get by with a 3.31 with a diesel but not so good with a gas engine. With the new 10 speeds it's like a double overdrive and made to lower rpm's on the hwy. The diesel engines have a lot of torque and can handle low rpm's. Gas engines not as much. I use son in law's '17 F250 with the 6.7 and 3.55 gearing. It does great hooked up to the 6 speed. I had the same '17 but a F350 DRW and a 176" WB 6.7 and a 6 speed but had the 4.10 gearing. Pulled a good bit harder then the F250 did even being a heavier and larger truck. His truck always got 3 to 4 mpg more then mine on the highway. Wish Ford would bring back the 3.73 gearing in the Super Duty diesel powered trucks.

My Expedition with the max towing has an E-locking plus limited slip setup. 3.73 gearing and has the FX4 package. Maybe it's an independent rear thing!! No 4hi range but has AWD which is great in the rain.

All I can tell you is that the 4:30 in my '23 dually, pulls my 15k trailer much better than the 3:73 w/6 speed in my '15..
A lot better 😌

Drove a F450 a few years ago with the 4.30 gearing but had the 6 speed. Ought to be nice with the 10 speed. Did you get the 6.7 or 7.3 gas version with 4.30's? I've always liked lower gearing from my hot rod days to RV-ing days!! Congrats on the new tow vehicle but pics are required!!

Only had the 4.10's in my '17 F350. Love the new truck and a great birthday present. Maybe I'll try something like that for my 77th at the end of the year!! Drove mine daily for 4-1/2 yrs and sold it to the contractor re-building our house for what I paid for it. Mine rode great and turning it was as easy as the W900A KW I drove years ago. Just plan turns a block or 2 in advance!!
