2nd A/C installed

Installed a second A/C unit last week. The 15000 btu unit just wasn't quite enough by itself in the middle of the day in southern Louisiana and Texas. I had a 7100 btu unit from an old pop-up I used to have, so I put it in the skylight/vent over the kitchen. I hard-wired a heavy duty extension cord, and ran it through the ceiling and down to a cubbie hole behind the outdoor shower. The outdoor shower(which I converted to a sink hookup) had a square hole already in it leading inside to the cubbie hole, so the cord runs through the hole and plugs into the 20 amp campground plug. When not used, i just shove it back in the cubbie hole. One of the lights on the ceiling was in the way, so I "scooted" it forward about 2". It's a lot cooler now at noon time, and I don't have to worry about overloading the camper breakers.

2nd air

What a great looking job. Could you send some pictures of your out side sink mod.

Nicely done! I really like how you used a completely separate wiring setup so that you're not relying on any of the trailer's existing circuits for the second A/C.

I agree with this. I am about to change the setup for our 5er's 2nd air, after the warranty expires.

We camp in places that have 30 amp plugs and 20 amp plugs in the CG elec. hook up. The main air in our 5ver seems to have no chance of keeping up with the heat we have had lately.

I will come up with a mod to ours to plug the 2nd air directly into the 20amp plug at the CG, plus also still plug in the 50amp supply into the 30 amp plug with adapter.

Thanks for sharing.

Pics of outdoor sink and A/C cord coming out of camper. Third pic is where I can attach drain to sewer when on park sewer, but I usually let it drain on the ground. Got the sink from my favorite home improvement store.

2nd air conditioner

I just picked up a 7100 btu Coleman ac that I plan to install in our Raptor. This last summer was bad and when we go full time it will be nice. For the price of $150 I could not pass it up. Our camper has a seperate breaker for the 2nd ac so I will splice into the wire after the breaker in the pass thru and plug that into the pedestal with the pannel breaker off. The breaker on the pedestal will protect the circut. If we have a 50 amp pedistal you don't plug into the 20 amp and then turn on the breaker in the camper pannel for 2nd ac.

Make sure you don't end up with a male plug-in (the one spliced in to plug into the 20amp at the pedestal) HOT coiled up laying in your camper somewhere while you are plugged into a 50amp service.

I looked at doing something like this but was thinking I wanted ALL 3 wires (Hot, neutral, ground) put on some type of cam switch. This way it would be totally separate from any of the wires in the camper fed by the 30amp pedestal plug. That way if for some reason I was not around any longer it would not kill someone if they tried by mistake to have both feeds plugged in at the same time.
