You don't give the year of your trailer. Here's a link to a 2008 278rks showing the tanks are 38 gal.

I have a 2002 Cougar 278 and a brochure for the camper says 30 gallon black tank. Who knows if this is correct?

Tank capacity can also vary between Eastern versions and Western versions of the same model

My Cougar is a 2010 278RKS with 3 holding tanks. One for galley, one for grey and the black. The information I’m finding is mixed but I’m hoping that I can find some details that are consistent as to the capacity on the black tank specifically.

Above is a link to the 2010 278rks. RVUSA has usually been pretty accurate in my use of it for specs. This one also shows a 38gal. tank. George indicated his 2002 has a 30gal tank which would indicate they changed tank sizes during that 6-8 year time frame which would not be surprising (if the link is accurate).

I've never worried about the gals. in any waste tank, I measure the capacity in days. Black tank is the same - how long before it "burps" at me. Also tells me if I need to start going #2 in the woods or use a bathhouse restroom...but gallons never cross my mind.

Edit: To clarify - I have thought about gallons in the holding tanks before purchase because I know the more gallons the longer I can go without dumping...pure laziness. After that it is what it is.

As mentioned I took it from the 2002 Cougar brochure and almost all black tanks were listed as 30 gallon. Do I take this as gospel? No, just saying that is what Keystone claimed in the brochure which of course, would ALMOST always be accurate.

According to the 2010 Cougar Western Edition Brochure, the black tank is 38 gallons and the two gray tanks equal 76 gallons. Usually that means two 38 gallon tanks, one for the galley and one for the bathroom shower/sink.

You can view/download the brochure at this link: https://recreationalvehicles.info/20...s-brochure.pdf
