Been There done that

To make this short, DON'T use the Canyon. We have the 22RB Bullet trailer and did make one trip from Tulsa to Quartzite pulling with a Colorado with the Duramax. CAT scaled the rig we were just under all the limits but physically the Colorado was just to small.

By Amarillo, Tx we were looking for a truck dealer due to white knuckle driving in the crosswinds of the Tx Panhandle.
Returned home purchased a larger pickup. Silverado High Country

Enjoy your Bullet, we have since made a coast to coast trip with zero issues.

Canyon

As to your Canyon with a towing package. We had a 2016 Canyon, diesel, factory towing package. Rated at 7700 lb. Above 5,000 lb the transmission began to overheat. Come to find out that transmission is sealed and not serviceable. We traded it for a Tahoe that easily pulls our keystone cougar at 6700 lb. We love the canyon, but not enough truck for towing in the hills of East Tennessee

No. Don't do it. You need a 2500 or the tail will be wagging the dog.
