Second AC on the garage!

Ok, I know there is a lot of topics about second AC units, however my question is a little different ;-)

I got the camper four months ago so I have not tried it in the summer yet...
But a lot of people complain about how "hot" it gets in the garage area. Even with a 15000 BTU's .

My camper is at the dealer now (fixing minor bugs), and I got a call from the service manager saying that they are running some "specials" on AC's
My camper is 30 amps and if I add a 13500 BTU's I have 2 options:

1-Tap to existing 30 amps system and not been able to run the two ACs at the same time.
Or
2-Run the cables to the outside of the trailer to a bracket with a male receptor. This way I can plug to 120 volts pedestal in the campgrounds.

So the question is:

What do you think is the best system? Price wise is the same.

The option to change to 50 amps is not for me because is to expensive.

Please let me know If there is something I'm missing !

Thanks for the input !

I think I would check with other 300 owners and see if they feel a second a/c is needed. I think it would depend on how your garage is being used. If you are just using it as a garage, then I don't think it would be needed. If you are using it as living space, then I would consider it. If you were to add a second unit, I am sure you will want to run them at the same time at least on occasion. I would have it wired so they could both be run at the same time.

Yes, The garage is the kids room.
I don't know if I need it or not!!! but right now it's half the price!! close to summer it will take forever to get it put in. I know they are putting pressure on myself to make a decision but I can be ready for the summer .....

We have the second a/c on our unit and glad we do. We also have more space to cool. Hopefully another 300 owner will way in with an opinion.

Don't have a toy hauler but I would option for the main Ac to run under the main 30amp circuit. I would op for the second AC to be wired separate with that option of plugging into an addition outlet at the power pole.
If you were camping on 50a, 30a, 20a on the power pole site you could use the 50a to power your camper with an 50-30a adapter and use the 30 circuit for the second AC with a 30a-20a adapter an then have the 20a extra.
Dont tie them together on the 30a main breaker so you could only run one AC at a time.

Just throwing this out there.

Second AC on the garage!

Thanks for your input.
At this point I'm leaning for the Independent plug.
But I think that it is better to wait a little bit, to see what happens after the first summer.'
I'm not going to let them put more pressure on me just because the camper is already there I may not need it at all !

30 amp ?

I am really missing something here..... Your unit is 30A ? Our 325 SRX is 50A, and I can't imagine your unit would come with 30A. I was under the impression your unit was quite a step up from the SRX. As for the aircon, we have found it impossible to keep the unit cool without extra aircons and some tinting. We have the 15K in the main cabin, extra 13.5K in the bedroom and also a portable in the garage bay, believe it's a 7.5K. Now, we are happy with the cooling in mid July heat, Myrtle Beach.

Yours is a fifth wheel and most of these new units are 50 amps. Mine is a pull behind.

We have 2 a/c in our 43ft Raptor and we have no problems cooling it in myrtle beach ,nags head or daytona in the summertimes,Just my 2 centsBut I would for sure have it wired seperatly from the other one and you may want to check you should have a 50amp hook up on your unit, just saying.

Very sorry I missed that, I was under the very incorrect impression you had a 5Ver. With a TT and only 30Amp, I think I would look at possibly having window tinting applied throughout, then look at your options for that second aircon. Having installed a second aircon myself, with a prewired and prepared install location, I would think this is going to be no small undertaking without pre-prep. Also, maybe a portable is an option for you? They are super efficient today, I've actually run ours on a 1k Mitsubishi inverter generator. If I remember right, ours draws 600W while running.

Second AC on the garage!

If U go with the independent outside plug.... Where would you put it? Curbside, roadside front of the camper?

Looks nice. Good call. I have the 300 MP 50A. I added a second AC to the bedroom and glad I did. It had one central vent running up there. I now shut that vent off to deliver more air to rest of the coach. Still, I never felt it was too warm in the garage even with just one AC. It definantly was in the bedroom tho.

In our case the 15,000 AC unit is located in the middle of the trailer right about the leaving room /kitchen area. It has no problem cooling our bedroom down. The garage was a different story....!

So its not ducted then. That would make a difference. When we had just the one, ducted AC, we had to put a fan at the top of the stairs of our 5er just to cool the bedroom down. PITA trying to get around that fan at night with a good buzz on!! At the top of the stairs no less!!

Correct, is not ducted. It is also designed to be power from an outside power source.

Congrats on the second AC unit. I thought I might add that since the supply and return on theses units are adjacent to each other you might check that the board that separates the two is well sealed.

I learned this from another thread on this board. I have a 15K unit in a 21Ft trailer with an open floor plan. It wasn't cooling well at all. I took down the return air filter and could see large gaps around the fiber board that separates the supply and return. I used metallic tape that is used to seal AC ductwork to seal around the board. This improved cooling tremendously. Here in the south that's important!
